Mission Critical Electric Drive Design.
Critical Drive Systems is an engineering consultancy supporting the design of safety-critical, cyber-secure electric drives — across aerospace, automotive, marine, medical, rail and defence.
We support the whole safety critical V-cycle: safety-case flowdown, design of fail-safe and fault-tolerant architectures, rapid development through model-based design and automated testing of software and hardware. All to the relevant standards (ISO26262, ARP4754, DO-178C etc).
We provide solutions to challenging problems such as safety-critical common-mode software faults and cyber-security protection for embedded software.
Architecture through to solution
We work with engineering teams to define, architect and deliver electric drive systems that meet functional safety and cybersecurity requirements from the outset — not as a retrofit. That spans concept architecture, requirements definition, electromagnetic and motor control design, and the assurance evidence needed to support certification.
Our clients build electric propulsion, actuation and power systems for aircraft, vehicles, vessels and defence platforms, where a drive failure is not an inconvenience but a safety event. We help design that risk out from the architecture up.
Thirty years in electric drives
Founded on three decades of hands-on safety-crtical electric drive development across automotive and aerospace programmes — including electromagnetic design, systems engineering, hardware design and embedded motor control software development.
Where it matters most
Aerospace
Electric propulsion, actuation and more-electric aircraft systems where availability and fault tolerance are non-negotiable.
Automotive
X-by-wire systems, traction drives and actuators engineered to meet ISO 26262 and evolving automotive cybersecurity requirements.
Marine
Propulsion and power drive systems built for harsh, safety-critical marine operating environments.
Defence
Drive systems for platforms where resilience against both failure and attack is a design requirement.
